Facts about cockroaches
Cockroaches can be a problem pest all year around. Although they tend to reproduce in the summer months, they will try to make their way into you home to get away from the cold weather. They look for warmth and wet locations in your home so the kitchen and bathroom are great places for them to live. Below we have some very interesting facts about these critters.
They are cannibals- Cockroaches love their food. They are constantly looking for their next meal and are not fussy eaters at all! So much so they will eat each other if food sources are scarce.
Good practice for you:
Always clear up any food debris from the kitchen floor and sides and keep pet food off the floor when it is not feeding time. Try to keep any food items in sealed containers.
Cockroaches can get anywhere and quickly- these insects can squeeze through the smallest of gaps. Their skeletons are able to bend and reshape meaning they can fit into the tiniest of cracks to get to that food source or water source. They are also extremely fast movers so you may not actually see them around, but it has been suggested that having a cockroach infestation can cause allergic reactions so that may be a sign to look out for. Another interesting fact: they cannot fly so there is no need to worry about that.
Good practice for you:
Make sure that any gaps and holes are filled appropriately in the kitchen and bathroom. It is always good to check behind the bath in your bathroom for any gaps and seal them accordingly.
Interestingly, cockroaches love beer! So we would suggest any spillages are cleaned up immediately as to not attract them unnecessarily.
